Each new year brings us new evolutions in content and trends to dig into as social media users. 2019 brought us the likes of the 10 year challenge and Instagram face filters. If you missed our previous (occasionally hilarious) blog posts on these topics, then please do check them out: The Monumental 10 Year Challenge and Instagram Face Filters: 3 Accounts You Need To Follow. Now, when it comes to what to look out for in 2020, there are already a few emerging trends. Buckle up, as we take you for a whistle stop tour of what to look for so far in 2020. And don’t worry; we’ll spare you the 2020 vision puns…
1. Beyond the Followers and Behind the Likes
Picture this: You have returned home after a tiring day, you are lying on the sofa and start scrolling through your Instagram feed. You see social media influencers with thousands of followers, promoting products in Greece or the Maldives. You click on that beautiful holiday photo and notice that the influencer doesn’t have that many likes in comparison to their following. Does this matter? A big misconception is that followers equals influence, although it rings some truth.
One of the top social media trends 2020 has seen so far, is focusing on ‘nano-influencers’. Engagement is the key ingredient for influence, owing to the fact that it leads to likes. What is the point of having 15K followers and a merely 200 likes on each post? It is better to focus on ‘nano-influencers’ who have an intimate and supportive follower community. This will benefit the companies who are eager to collaborate and build a strong relationship with one another. If you are eager to debunk misconceptions of social media and perhaps not feel so down about your own following, signing up to the social media marketing course and social media training for masterclass is the way forward. Nano-influencers ‘shantay you stay’ and fake influencers ‘sashay away’.
2. More Interaction for a Greater Attraction
It would be a sin not to share these next top social media trends 2020 has revealed. We all can’t help ourselves from clicking on Instagram stories, whilst commuting to work or simply killing some time. Whether you are tapping past Kylie Jenner’s Instagram story or whizzing past your friend’s regretful story from a night out… you can’t help but tap on that brightly coloured ring. Adding interactive features on your story like polls or ‘ask me a question’ will create a greater attraction between your page and followers. We normally associate Facebook stories with our Mums or relatives sharing a cringey picture or quote. We often neglect using it as a tool. Keep your mind open to posting stories on social media platforms other than Instagram. You may be thinking stop “trying to make Facebook stories happen, It is not going to happen” but, Facebook stories get 500 million daily users. Maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to start posting on Facebook more.
3. Lights, Camera…..Action!
It is hard to keep up with all the new social media trends 2020 but this last trend needs to be taken on board. If you are interested in how social media is transforming but feel a bit clueless, the best solution for gaining a better understanding is by signing up to a social media marketing course and social media training for masterclass. Do you find yourself watching more videos than seeing photos on social media? Video content is like the coronavirus spreading everywhere on social media. By 2022, 82% of all online content will be video content, so start recording and posting.….whether it is simply a story, a YouTube video or an IGTV.
