Stratford East is a producing theatre, built in 1884, in the heart of East London. They are driven by art, inclusivity and boldness – where they tell stories that provoke discourse about the world we live in and our place within it. Stratford East makes theatre both for and inspired by, our communities in East London. They continue the political and revolutionary ethos of their founder Joan Littlewood as a leading London theatre.
We have collaborated on two projects with Theatre Royal, Summer in London and Queer Lates. Theatre Royal collaborated with us to generate buzz and promote two of their LGBTQ+ shows. Summer in London is the first play in mainstream British theatre led by an all trans cast, written and directed by award-winning filmmaker and LGBTQ activist Rikki Beadle-Blair MBE. Queer Lates is a cabaret-lecture-variety show that celebrates LGBTQ+ History Month, having gathered some of their favourite Queer ancestors to honour the people that have helped in the LGGBTQQIAAPPK march towards equality. Monumental stepped in to provide digital PR surrounding these two shows which led to a number of features in local press, as well as LGBTQ+ press, such as DIVA Magazine and AZ Magazine. On top of press coverage, Monumental had invited LGBTQ+ influencers, from their little black book of contacts, to attend the show and promote it through their social channels.
